Rain, Rain, Go Away . . .

One day it started raining, and it didn’t quit for four months. We been through every kind of rain there is. Little bitty stingin’ rain… and big ol’ fat rain. Rain that flew in sideways. And sometimes rain even seemed to come straight up from underneath.
- Forrest Gump

You ever feel like that? Well, surprise surprise, it’s raining in Murfreesboro again. Rain is just a fact of life here in the Murf . . . something we all have to live with:
-The flooding of the gravel parking lots.
-Trekking through puddle after puddle.
-Avoiding the tidal waves created by passing cars and bikes.

According to the city of Murfreesboro’s website, we receive an average annual rainfall of 53.75 inches. That’s a lot more than the city of Seattle. Yeah, I know . . . crazy, right?

One of my first pieces of advice to you is this,
Forget the umbrella, invest in good rain gear. With the prevailing Southerly and Southwesterly winds that regularly sweep through this area it will take your umbrella about 3 second to invert, leaving you soaked. Why not forego the trouble and get some dry gear instead. Sure, your fellow students might look at you funny, but you’ll be the one sitting comfortably in class while they slosh in, waterlogged and smelling like a wet dog.
Surprisingly enough, common sense has prevailed concerning fashion too. I can’t tell you how many girls I see walking around campus in their cute little rubber boots and rain coats. See, you won’t be the only one.

Guys, no worries for you either . . . it’s easier for us to pull it off. Besides, chicks dig the wet hair look . . . or so I’m told.
Talk to Brandon over at Bink’s Outfitters on the Square. He can hook you up with those atrocious, yet oh, so comfortable Crocs or a nice new pair of Chacos (The best footwear investment you’ll ever make). These fast drying shoes are just the first step in equipping yourself for our perpetual rainy season.
Also, for those wannabe frat-tastic guys North Face, Marmot, Columbia, and Mountain Hardwear make a host of comfortable and good looking rain gear.
As for everyone else, you can head over to Wal-Mart and pick up some relatively inexpensive rain gear made by such trustworthy outdoor companies such as Stearns.
At least that’s what I did, and I use it all the time.
As always, Stay tuned. There’s more where this came from . . .

If you’re like me, you came to college to expand your horizons, educate yourself, become the person you’re destined to be, and . . . oh yeah, eventually graduate with a degree in something. Am I right? This site is my attempt at documenting all of the various tidbits of information I’ve stumbled across while a student here at the university. My hope is that someone will find some of this information useful, at least in some regard. As for the rest of you, I hope that I can at least amuse you with tales of inane minutiae revolving around life at this university. Stay tuned, there’s more to come.
